Philippa Karakashian

Philippa Karakashian was born in Leeds in 1960. As a mature student she studied Fine Art Printmaking at the University of Brighton graduating in 2003 where she gained a BA (Hons) First Class , the American Express Award and the sponsors graduate prize for  achievement.

After completing her degree she set up a studio within a large artist led organisation in Brighton where she continues to work.  After acquring a small etching press she began developing a series of works combining  mixed media with printed surfaces, particularly collagraph . This method  derived from collage combines various materials on a base plate to create an image, the constructed plate is then sealed and can be inked on  both the relief and intaglio  surfaces. The plate is then passed through the press where the image is transferred and sometimes embossed  onto dampened heavyweight paper.

Philippa has exhibited her  work in galleries in London and throughout the UK and at several national art fairs as well as annual open studios and other  local arts events and festivals.  Her work is in private collections in the UK, Australia, Canada, S. Korea and the Middle East.

Philippa is currently represented by Four Square Fine Arts .
